Twitter – In the Headlines for the Wrong Reasons
The many security breaches at the popular micro-blogging site has again been seen as one of the worst performing, internet-based companies the world over in terms of security with thousands of people affected by many security holes and breaches in the past few months. This type of negative publicity is considered by the micro-blogging site as publicity and even with wide gaping holes in their API, they continue to grow by leaps and bounds each and every day as if people aren’t listening. One new problem they are facing is the set coming of the Twitpocalypse or the meeting of a pre-set condition tbat would bring an unimaginable death to the whole system, crashing or totally ceasing to function. This current problem is apparently due to a pre-set binary number that goes back to the days when the base-system of the social networking site was under development.
This doom’s-day number is being hailed as the Y2K bug of the site or the zero-day for malware which are time sensitive, to perform it’s dastardly deeds once certain conditions are met. The API’s, and other vital programs were developed to work on the 32-bit standards of days past, way before the 64-bit operating systems were deployed hence the limited pre-set number. The events that can happen are being closely watched and the developers who work with Twitter are on high-alert for any incidents, ready to pounce and supply a solution so people can continue twittering, even with the coming of Twitpocalypse.
